How many days are recommended for Zhangjiajie?
For most travelers, 2 days is the sweet spot — enough to see both of Zhangjiajie's headline attractions without rushing.
- Day 1 — Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (the "Avatar Mountains" in Wulingyuan)
- Day 2 — Tianmen Mountain
Each attraction takes a full day. They're on opposite sides of the city and can't sensibly be combined.
If you have 3 or more days, there's much more to explore. Our recommended split:
- 1.5 days at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — enough time to cover the Yuanjiajie plateau, Tianzi Mountain zone, and Golden Whip Stream trail properly
- 1 day at Tianmen Mountain — cable car up, Glass Skywalk, Heaven's Gate, and the 99-bends road down
- Half day at Huanglong Cave (Yellow Dragon Cave) — an underground boat ride through massive stalactite chambers, and a nice weather-proof change of pace from all the mountain hiking
With 4 or more days, you can add the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and Glass Bridge, a day trip to Furong Ancient Town, or deeper hiking in Wulingyuan (Yangjiajie, Ten-Mile Gallery).
See our 3-day itinerary for a full worked example.
